Linoleum block print Westport Connecticut Nyala Farm in the collection of the Connecticut Historical Society
Linoleum block print Westport Connecticut Nyala Farm, in the collection of the Connecticut Historical Society.
Nyala Farm actually used to be a working dairy farm in Westport, Connecticut. It has since become the headquarters for Playtex, although they have not disturbed the surrounding lands to any great degree. It still looks much as it did when cows roamed the countryside. A print from this edition resides in the Connecticut Historical Society as part of their permanent collection.
Original hand pulled linoleum block print (linocut), not a reproduction. Unlike a reproduction (gicleé, offset, computer print-outs), this image was conceived and executed solely as a relief print — it is not a reproduction of an artwork originally created in another medium, such as a painting or a drawing. Nyala Farm is a limited edition original linoleum cut with Chine-collé (collage), number 6 from a small edition of 15. The sky and foreground are Japanese rice and mulberry papers, placed on top of the inked linoleum plate witih glue on the back. This allows me to print on a very delicate surface. The plate is then run thru a hand-cranked press. Under the pressure of the press, the lighter surface is glued to the support (BFK Rives archival printmaking paper) simultaneously with the image printing on it. The image area is 6 x 11 in., printed on 10 1/2 x 14 in. paper, and is pencil-signed and numbered.
All of my original prints are hand-pulled by me. Because of this, each etching, aquatint, silkscreen, woodblock or lithograph I do varies slightly from print to print, in effect making each impression an original print, unlike a reproduction, where every print is exactly the same.
PLEASE NOTE: This print does NOT include framing or matting. The photo of the framed art is only to suggest a style of framing.
