4 7/8" x 6 7/8" | paper
Original etching (silk aquatint or silk collagraph), from a small edition of 20. The image area is 4 7/8" x 6 7/8", printed with generous borders on BFK Rives archival printmaking paper using Graphic Chemical oil based etching ink, pencil signed and numbered. Etchings are released/sold at random. Specific number requests not available.

This is an ORIGINAL etching, not a "reproduction". Unlike a "reproduction" (gicleé, offset, computer print-outs), this image was conceived and executed solely as an etching — it is not a "reproduction" of an artwork originally created in another medium, such as a painting or a drawing. This type of etching is also referred to as a "silk aquatint or silk mezzotin". It is a non-acid method of working a print plate where the image is created by painting with whitened acrylic medium on a black silk surface backed with plastic, to produce a variety of tones & textures. The plate is then inked, wiped (like a metal plate), and printed on an etching press. An etching plate can take hours, days, even weeks to "get right", before the actual printing even begins. Each print in the edition of 20 is subtly different, as each is inked and printed individually with great attention given to the quality of each print, and each print is considered an original work of art. Once the edition is printed, the matrix (the etching plate) is discarded. The etching plate is not the artwork, but simply a tool for creating the artwork.
